Purpose
This bulletin publishes images of uniform decorations authorized for wear by sworn officers of the Pittsburg Police Department who have been cited for meritorious service.

Residents deserve the opportunity to understand and appreciate the meaning and significance of the decorations earned and worn by their police officers. And, officers deserve public recognition and appreciation for outstanding service.
Rationale
Wearable decorations have been a long-established civilized tradition for recognizing and encouraging outstanding performance of duly sworn members of the uniformed public services. It distinguishes the wearer as having contributed, significantly, toward the advancement of the mission of their organization.
It is a clearly visible mark of distinction that enables instant recognition of notable performance, attempts to display an organization's appreciation for the wearer, and to instill rightful pride in personal accomplishments to reinforce the achievement.
